More Worcestershire Records Available Online

The Worcestershire Probate Index is now available on FindMyPast. Containing over 51,000 records, it covers four varieties of probate documents: grants of administration, administrations with will annexed, limited (where the entire estate of the deceased is not covered), and wills. Each record includes a transcript that reveals when the person died, their occupation and how their estate was handled.

The index has been digitised from a typewritten copy held at Worcestershire Archives at The Hive. Andrew Harris undertook the work and corrected some errors in the process.

Meanwhile, further parish register entries for Worcestershire parishes have been released at The Genealogist website.

Also, the records of Powick Hospital, otherwise known as Worcester City and County Pauper Lunatic Asylum, have been moved to a new website managed by the Worcester Medical Museums.

Markwell Award Comes to Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove Member, and Webmaster, Mike Sharpe has been awarded the BMSGH's Fred Markwell Memorial Award for 2013. The award is presented each year to a member, not on the Executive Committee, who has made an outstanding contribution to the Society.

We are pleased to announce another new resource on this site: the Bromsgrove Apprenticeships Index. This index lists around 1500 appenticeships entered into with employers/masters within the Bromsgrove jurisdiction between 1637 and 1813.

Where's the Login?

Due to the volume of spoof registrations, the login facility has been suspended. All resources that previously required registration and login are now publicly accessible.

The North Worcestershire Family History Forum has also been suspended.
