King's Norton Library Local
Studies Collection
The library has a well-used local history collection of books, maps, photographs and newspaper cuttings.
The many old photographs of the area include those of the late C.A.P. Rogers and the late Arthur Allen, both local historians.
The small map collection spans from the tithe maps to the present day.
The Helen Goodger Collection comprising of the research notes of the late Mrs Helen Goodger, local authoress.
A good range of local history books, many
of which are available for loan. These books are listed on the library catalogue
which is available both in the library and on the Birmingham City Council
website.
Items of special interest to genealogists include:
CD-Roms of Census Returns for Worcestershire 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891 and for Warwickshire 1861, 1871, 1891. The National Burial Index for England and Wales. The streets and inhabitants of Birmingham in 1770. 1873 Return of Owner’s Land (for Warwickshire, Worcestershire & Staffordshire). Birmingham City Battalions Book of Honour 1920.
Genealogy books for both beginners and more experienced researchers.
Birmingham Libraries have subscribed to the Ancestry.com website, this may be accessed without charge from any Birmingham City Library. The only charge incurred would be for printing.
