“Worcestershire Murders – Stories from the

18th and 19th centuries”

by Vanessa Morgan

Vanessa will be presenting a selection of stories of events

which took place in Worcestershire in the 1700s and 1800s

with some readings from newspapers of the time.

Vanessa Morgan is a freelance researcher in family and local history, a

writer and thespian. She has submitted various articles for publication in

magazines.

This month’s homework

Now how long have you been researching your family tree ?

From your family tree program print out a 5 generation ancestors/

pedigree chart or from your records draw one on wall lining paper.

Now have a good look at it and particularly the death dates of

those that should be dead.

Are they ALL there? if not there is some work to be done. If the

missing ones are women did they remarry and died with the new

husbands surname .(seems a very popular option and not just once

with my X times grandmothers.)

Are ALL the marriage/birth/baptism dates there too.

If they are have a pat on the back and add a generation !

Non Parcohial BMD Records

It might be worth a look at http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/ The Official

Non-Parochial BMDs Service for records of birth, baptism, marriage,

death and burial taken from non parish sources. Non-Conformist Records,

Early Births, Baptisms and Burials including Overseas records Methodists,

Wesleyans, Baptists, Independents, Protestant Dissenters, Congregationalist,

Presbyterians, Unitarians, Quakers (Society of Friends), Dissenters and

Russian Orthodox. Maternity Records. Overseas Records. Early Birth Registers

plus various other BMD records from the RG & BT series at the

National Archives.

It’s a bit pricey at 50p an image but the index can give the fathers name

Data in the 1939 National Registration

It seems that there has been quite a response to the original announcement

that a challenge under the FoI Act had been agreed by the Information

Commissioner.

An announcement has now been made that the data on *deceased* people

whose deaths are recorded is now publically available but at a price of

£42 !!!!
